Ripple and Peersyst have collaborated to develop the XRP Ledger EVM sidechain, currently in the DevNet stage, using evmOS, a modular tech stack built on the Cosmos SDK. This move allows XRPL to join the interchain, an ecosystem of over 90 interconnected blockchains, and grants access to all Cosmos SDK chains, providing XRP holders with access to hundreds of apps.
Interoperability is a crucial factor for the success of any blockchain network, and XRPL has made significant progress in this regard. By building its EVM sidechain using the Cosmos SDK, XRPL establishes a direct connection to nearly 100 interconnected networks and thousands of dApps.
The partnership between Ripple and Evmos focuses on utilizing evmOS to build the sidechain. This customizable and modular tech stack ensures full compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine on top of the Cosmos SDK.
Ripple and Cosmos have been collaborating for several months, with previous efforts including the development of a bridge by Coreum that enables asset transfers from XRPL to the Cosmos ecosystem. The current collaboration is built on the evmOS tech stack, which offers various features for EVM implementation, such as access to the dApp store, IBC functionality, and EVM extensions.
The XRPL EVM sidechain, powered by the Cosmos SDK and running on the CometBFT consensus engine, allows for the development of native, cross-chain applications. Developers claim that it will provide XRPL developers with unprecedented flexibility in expanding the XRPL EVM sidechain according to their preferences.
By leveraging evmOS, the XRPL EVM sidechain joins the Interchain ecosystem launched by Cosmos. This integration offers XRPL users access to thousands of networks, dApps, and other Web3 apps across over 90 interconnected blockchains. It effectively serves as a “passport” for XRPL users to seamlessly interact with any desired applications.
Jasmine Cooper, Ripple’s Head of DeFi Products, sees this integration as a significant milestone in expanding the XRPL ecosystem. She believes that evmOS technology will provide developers with unparalleled flexibility and customization options, enabling them to build innovative cross-chain applications that tap into the vast potential of XRPL and the broader interchain ecosystem.
In addition to interacting with other networks in the Interchain, the XRPL EVM sidechain will also benefit from evmOS Outposts, which enhance interoperability by connecting blockchains without complexity for users. For example, XRPL users can make seamless swaps on Osmosis, a DEX on Cosmos, without the need to switch wallets.
Federico Kunze Kullmer, the founder of Evmos, expresses his excitement about bringing the XRPL ecosystem to Cosmos through this partnership, emphasizing the benefits it will bring to the entire ecosystem.
As of now, Cosmos is trading at $8.66, experiencing a 3.7% increase in the past day, while XRP is trading at $0.5239, with a 1.3% gain.
