Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has reaffirmed his support for cryptocurrency by declaring Bitcoin as the ultimate defense against inflation. The 2024 US Presidential Candidate, who previously pledged to end the government’s war on Bitcoin if elected president, made this statement in a recent post on X, addressing his 2.8 million followers. Kennedy praised crypto as a powerful tool that wrests control from the government and banking systems, which he believes unfairly concentrate wealth in the hands of the oligarchy while impoverishing everyday Americans. He called on those who share his vision of crypto as a symbol of freedom to support him in his bid for the presidency.
Kennedy’s position on the burgeoning crypto industry has always been clear, earning him support from numerous crypto enthusiasts. In a previous interview with Bitcoin Magazine, he vowed to protect Bitcoin, allow people to retain their wallets, and put an end to the White House’s antagonistic approach towards the digital currency. Additionally, Kennedy expressed his opposition to Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), viewing them as instruments of oppression.
Expanding on his plans, the Democratic Party nominee revealed that he would strive to classify Bitcoin as a currency rather than a commodity. To achieve this goal, Kennedy indicated that he would utilize his influence over Treasury policy without relying on Congress. He argued that many unfavorable policies targeting Bitcoin were not driven by legislation but instead originated from the White House. Another noteworthy campaign promise is his intention to eliminate taxes on cryptocurrencies and back the US Dollar with digital assets.
Anthony Scaramucci, a prominent pro-crypto investor and former communications director for ex-president Donald Trump, believes that Kennedy’s support for crypto could attract millions of enthusiasts. Scaramucci anticipates that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will become a significant issue in the 2024 election, and a presidential candidate who embraces crypto will gain an advantage.
Despite not personally owning any Bitcoin, Kennedy announced that his campaign accepts donations via the Lightning Network. At the time of writing, Bitcoin’s value had increased by 3.6% in the past 24 hours, trading at $67,029 as it strives to recover and surpass the $70k milestone.
